Torch Lake fireworks re-scheduled
TORCH RIVER — The show must go on. And so it will, on July 3, when fireworks will once again light up the sky over the waters of south Torch Lake.
"We had a major donor come through," said Gordy Shafer, former owner of the Dockside Bar and Grill in Clam River and president of the South Torch Area Association for the past six years. "So I matched it, and with the down payment we already had from our sponsors and fundraisers, it was enough for the $26,000 show."
The effort to revive the fireworks, initially cancelled for this year earlier this spring, began just a few days ago, Shafer said. "I'm not real good with the word 'no', so when we canceled this year's show, that didn't set well with me."
