KALKASKA – While it wasn’t a complete surprise, since the announcement had been made a week earlier, excitement echoed through the Kalkaska Church of Christ gathering hall last Wednesday as local officials and dignitaries waited to applaud the 2018 Kalkaska Business and Citizen of the Year honorees.

This year’s winners were All Seasons Hotel & Resort as the Business of the Year, while Kalkaska County Treasurer Valerie Thornburg received the Citizen of the Year honor.

Upon receiving their awards, both praised their community and its residents.

“I am proud to serve the residents of Kalkaska County,” Thornburg said, “and assist them with whatever their needs may be. … I grew up here and am very thankful to be able to help someone personally with a question they may have, or simply to explain their bill.

“This is a great community,” she added.

Tim Ellis, general manager of All Seasons Hotel & Resort – and winner of last year’s Citizen of the Year honor – echoed that sentiment.

“As I said last year,” Ellis stated, “This is a great place to live and have a family. We – the employees of All Seasons Hotel & Resort – count it a privilege to be a part of this community and serve them, as well as visitors to our community.”
