KALKASKA – For the Village of Kalkaska, Christmas came early on Tuesday, Dec. 17, when the Michigan Strategic Fund board voted to award the village with millions in state funding in support of what’s become known as the Railroad Square redevelopment project.

The vote by the MSF board members will provide the $3.47 million village officials had been seeking for the redevelopment of the 300 Block of Cedar Street, which includes property that was once home to the former chamber of commerce office and Erb Lumber center in downtown Kalkaska.

Village officials and other supporters traveled to Lansing for Tuesday’s vote. Harley Wales, Kalkaska village president, was included in the contingent of local officials who testified before the state board, hoping to earn its approval.
