Skate Park Committee aims to raise money for facility
KALKASKA — The Kalkaska Skate Park Community Committee has a Facebook page with more than 75 members, energy and determination, and a five-year plan to bring a skate park to Kalkaska.

“We live in an area where if you’re not into organized sports then there’s not much for you to do,” said Village Councilman Damien White, who heads the Parks and Recreation department and is a member of the Skate Park Committee. “That tends to allow you to get into trouble because you have no way to blow off energy or express yourself, so you might be more susceptible to drugs or wrong think or vandalism. We just see it as a healthier way for kids to vent and express themselves or have something to do.”
