Sixth-grader raises more than $800 for library
KALKASKA – Celina Castaneda, 11, raised $880 for the new library building with an eight-hour read-a-thon last Wednesday, June 28. At 9 a.m. she settled into a rocking chair in the library’s lobby with a stack of “Hank the Cowdog” books and a donation jar. She stayed there until 5 p.m. reading page after page for hour after hour.
“I’m doing something I love, to help something I love,” said Castaneda.
Castaneda is the youngest Friends of the Library member, and according to Friends of the Kalkaska County Library President Marilyn Coville, she pays her own membership fees, actively attends meetings and helps at fundraisers.
“(I became a member) because I love the library and helping out. The bake sale is one of my favorites; it’s a lot of fun,” stated Castaneda.
