Sieting fails in attempt to punish trustee

In what might have been one of the more tense moments of the meeting, embattled Village president Jeff Sieting sought a motion from his fellow council members for “punitive damages” against trustee Penny Dupuie.

 

KALKASKA – The regular meeting of the Kalkaska Village Council on Monday, March 26, might as well have been held on the Fourth of July, as it was accompanied by plenty of fireworks.

In what might have been one of the more tense moments of the meeting, embattled Village president Jeff Sieting sought a motion from his fellow council members for “punitive damages” against trustee Penny Dupuie.

Sieting said the request was first discussed at a recent meeting of the council’s Ordinance and Ethics Committee, after he discovered what he called a “damaging” and “unvetted” Facebook post by Dupuie. He added that the post included unvetted documents discussed at a recent Finance Committee meeting which should not yet have been disclosed in a public forum.

According to Sieting, Dupuie’s actions were a violation of the village’s ethical standards of conduct.
