I must confess that I cringed a bit as I thought about writing this column, because I hate the the thought of resurrecting the local debate on gun ownership and Second Amendment rights, but it appears, judging from a letter that  also appears on this page today, that the debate may be  starting up again with or without me so I may as well chime in with my own two cents worth.

Earlier this month, at regular meetings of both the Antrim County Board of Commissioners (BOC) and the Kalkaka BOC, members of an organization called “Michigan for 2A Sanctuary Counties,”  addressed  those boards with an appeal to adopt a resolution that will “oppose or impede”  the enforcement of  any gun control  measures or new legislation, which the group identifies as “red flag”  laws, that may be considered in violation of the Second Amendment.
