Shirley’s Café gets new owners
MANCELONA — After owning and operating two restaurants for the past several years, Shirley Tracey has decided it’s time to slow down.
Tracey’s career in food service began before she became a teenager. Her grandparents established Avery’s Restaurant in Mancelona in 1956, and about 10 years later, her parents, Chuck and Lil, took over the business.
“When I turned 11, I worked as a full-time dishwasher, putting in 40 hours a week during the summer,” Tracey recalled. “Even during school, I worked and I loved it. I was proud of who I was.”
