Sanborn resigns: Council seeks candidate to fill vacant seat

Dennis Mansfield, Contributing Writer

KALKASKA – There was an empty chair at the Kalkaska Village Council’s regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 22.

In a letter dated Jan. 15 to Village President Jeff Sieting, Trustee Kathleen Sanborn announced her intention to resign from the council.

“After much thought and consideration, I have make the difficult decision to resign from my position as village trustee effectively immediately,” Sanborn stated in the letter. “I no longer have faith in the direction that the village council is taking.

“I am, however, grateful for the opportunity, experience and knowledge extended to me by the Village of Kalkaska.”

The remaining six council members voted to accept Sanborn’s resignation at a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 18.

They also took steps to fill the vacancy at Monday night’s meeting, voting to advertising the position for at least two weeks. Sieting said any applications will then be forwarded to the council’s Nomination Committee for review.
