A record-setting day for Kalkaska runners
COMSTOCK PARK — It was a record-setting day for the Kalkaska boys track team at Saturday’s Division 3 state finals as two school marks were shattered at a meet where the Blazers stood on the all-state podium for three events.
Kalkaska’s 4x200 relay of Cole McKenzie, Kyle McDowell, Keagan Burley and Micah Miller ran an eighth-place time of 1:32.45 to break the school standard in that event. McDowell also set a school record in the 400 when he finished second in a time of 49.15. McDowell came within three-tenths of a second of winning the race in a photo finish with Hart’s Logan Wells. The Blazers’ 4x400 team grabbed an all-state nod as well, finishing fifth in 3:28.23 with the team of Miller, Burley, McKenzie and McDowell.
Miller finished 19th in the 400 with a time of 51.66.
