RCE PTO to host annual fundraiser

RAPID CITY – In what’s become a community celebration, supporters of Rapid Elementary School are sure to again flock to the local school on First Street in Rapid City on Saturday, May 4, for the 18th annual Rapid City Parent-Teacher Organization’s Spring Dinner & Auction.

The event, which has become the PTO’s primary fundraiser, has raised thousands of dollars that the organization has then used to support and enhance activities at the school. Some of those efforts have included purchasing classroom supplies and address other student or teacher-related needs, as well as funding field trips.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said PTO member Kasha Martin, after last year’s event raised $7,000 in support of the elementary school. “It’s where we get the bulk of our budget.”

Organizers believe last year’s spring auction was yet another success for the PTO, with between 125-150 having attended the event.

This year’s fundraiser is set to include a pasta dinner, live and silent auctions, bake sale and kids’ activities, as well as 50-50 drawings and door prizes. The dinner and silent auction will begin at 5 p.m., with the live auction slated to start at 6 p.m.

“We're always so amazed and thankful for the outpouring of community support for Rapid City Elementary,” said RCE principal Laura Kwekel after last year’s dinner.

Cost of the dinner is $6 for adults and children ages 13 and older, with those 12 and under eating for free.
