Project to update village water, sewer starts in earnest
KALKASKA – Local officials are ready with apologizes to residents, motorists and visitors trying to navigate their way through sections of the Village of Kalkaska this summer.
That’s because work on the more than $4-million project to update the village’s water and sewer system, which officially got underway April 18, ramped up significantly once the 81st annual National Trout Festival was over on Sunday, April 30.
“The Rural Development project is in full swing,” said Scott Yost, Kalkaska village manager, while updating the Kalkaska Village Council at its regular meeting Monday, May 8.
According to village officials, the proposed upgrades include about 18,000 linear feet of water mains – or more than three miles of pipe – and 5,800 feet of sewer force mains, as well as 2,000 feet of storm sewer lines and another 1,900 feet of gravity sewer lines.
