Police, volunteers help ensure positive holiday experience

TORCH RIVER – Cooler summer weather over most of last week’s Fourth of July holiday weekend meant a much quieter, calmer “Torch Fest” event at the south end of Torch Lake, but most involved agreed that tight controls put in place last year must continue into the future.

“I believe that the weather helped us both Saturday and Sunday, the first two days of the weekend, “said Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean. “Unfortunately, that didn’t last, and when the weather improved we were much busier Monday, and especially Tuesday.”
