COLDSPRINGS TWP. – Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department officials were reportedly part of a raid involving more than 20 law enforcement officers on Friday, Feb. 1, as a search warrant was served on a Coldsprings Township residence.

According to news reports, two individuals were arrested and officials seized a substance believed to be crystal meth during the raid Friday evening by members of the Traverse Narcotics Team, Michigan State Police and the KCSD, as well as MSP Hometown Security and canine units.

The heavy police presence was in response to the alleged presence of multiple suspects and possible weapons at the local residence, which was reportedly raided by police for the third time in the last 12 months.

Reports state that the substance suspected to be crystal meth was allegedly found in both the home and a vehicle.

“Obviously, our primary focus recently has been on opioids in general,” Kalkaska County Sheriff Patrick Whiteford said, regarding the potential seizure of crystal meth. “That’s why this one stood out.

“All these resurface once in a while,” he added. “There’s still a demand for it. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be a supplier.

“It’s unfortunate we can’t close it down completely.”

The two individuals arrested were reportedly detained for outstanding warrants on felony charges of conspiracy to deliver or manufacture methamphetamine and controlled substance delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine.
