KALKASKA TWP. — As the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Or, more appropriately, a suspect wanted for multiple offenses.

That was literally the case recently when a garage full of smoke helped signal the location of a 31-year-old Kalkaska man who had been trying to elude police but now faces multiple charges after a joint investigation by the Kalkaska County Sheriff Department and Michigan State Police in eastern Kalkaska Township in the area of Kettle Lake and Hartzell roads.

The chase started around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, when Kalkaska Central Dispatch received a call from a woman stating her son was allegedly threatening her, her husband and another family member. According to KCSD reports, the woman added she believed the suspect was “highly intoxicated” and the family members were concerned for their safety.
