CENTRAL LAKE — A report on the findings of a review of the financial activities of the Village of Central Lake's former clerk/treasurer over a nine-month period of 2019 noted a pattern of pay advances, unknown credit card purchases, and the discovery of 14 pre-signed blank checks.

The review, which was requested by the Antrim County Sheriff's Office as part of a criminal investigation against Racheal Antaya, the village's clerk/treasurer of the past six years, was conducted from Jan. 6-10 by a certified public accountant from the firm of Baird, Cotter, and Bishop, P.C., the village's regular accounting firm.

Reportedly suspended with pay in December, Antaya formally resigned on Jan. 3, citing personal reasons. Members of the Village Council, including Village Council president Larry Eckhardt, have not said what events led to the former clerk's resignation.
