While the main holiday parade was slated to take place on land on July 4th, the Best Fourth in the North included a patriotic parade on water last Saturday.

FIFE LAKE - Even before the big finale, organizers of the Fife Lake “Best Fourth in the North” are celebrating the success of this year’s event.

“Amazing,” said Gloria Perrault, a member of the Best Fourth in the North Committee. “Every day has been crazy. There’s been so many people.”

The holiday celebration got underway with a full slate of activities on Saturday, June 30, with a farmer’s market, art and craft show, car show and boat parade.

Perrault said attendance of event on both Saturday and Sunday, July 1, was outstanding, despite heat that reached into the upper 90s. Of course, she added it helps that the annual festival is held in a beachside community.

“There’s been hundreds of people swimming each day,” Perrault said.

Sunday included more family-friendly events, starting off with a North Country Trail guided hike. There were also kids’ games and bounce houses, and the “Old Time Family Lawn Races” for all ages.

People also flocked to downtown Fife Lake for a variety of music. One of the more popular performances was by Elvis tribute artist Jake Slater.

“It was fantastic,” Perrault said. “Everybody just loved him.

“It was the third year he’s been here. We’re going to bring him back.”

The fun and festivities took a bit of a break on Monday and Tuesday, July 2-3. But, the celebration was set to go out on a high note on Wednesday, the Fourth of July, as local residents and visitors gathered to celebrate the nation’s anniversary.
