Opening of Central Lake marijuana shop may be delayed
CENTRAL LAKE — The opening of Antrim County's first retail recreational marijuana establishment in downtown Central Lake may be delayed.
Originally scheduled to open between May 1 and May 15, the completely renovated State Street shop, originally a party store, had been ready to open pending the imminent arrival of an operating permit from the State of Michigan, but a technicality in the state's retail marijuana rules can be amended by the Central Lake Village Council has halted that process, according to Kelly Young, the business's owner.
A final review of the pending permit two weeks ago had revealed an issue with state zoning guidelines stating that any retail marijuana establishment must be at least 1,000 feet from the nearest school building, Young said.
The Torch Cannabis Company, which the new business has been named, is located 923 feet from the nearest school building on State Street adjacent to Village Market.
