KALKASKA – It’s no joke. Supporters of a proposed new skate park to be built in the Village of Kalkaska are getting serious about fundraising to make the project a reality, planning for the group’s first major fundraiser later this fall.

The all-volunteer Kalkaska Skate Park Committee, which is operating under the Kalkaska Village Council’s Park and Recreation Committee, will host “The Darren McCarty Slapstick Comedy Tour” for one performance at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 at The Fireball Lounge, 510 N. Cedar St. in Kalkaska.

As the name implies, the show features former NHL Detroit Red Wing favorite Darren McCarty, as well as some of his favorite comedians.

The show is planned to feature more than just a few jokes. According to organizers, there will also be a question-and-answer session, as well as a private meet-and-greet with McCarty, where lucky attendees can get a selfie with the former hockey standout.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, and may be purchased online at obscurrus.com or by calling 231-360-9533.
