KALKASKA – Jeff Sieting has served as the Kalkaska village president since 2011, after unseating Virginia Thomas in the 2010 general election. That includes being unchallenged in winning his next two two-year terms in office.

But, a newly formed group, Kalkaska For Peace, is considering whether it will work to recall Sieting before he serves out his current term that runs through 2018.

“This is new to us,” said village resident Elizabeth Dunham, a member of the group and one of the managers of its Facebook page. “We’re trying to figure out processes that are new to us and move forward.”

Currently, Dunham said the group is polling village residents by going door-to-door to see if there’s support for a recall of Sieting.

“It’s pretty simple,” she added. “We’re chatting with people.”
