New VA director hoping to set up satellite offices for local vets

BELLAIRE — Before long, Antrim County's military veterans may not have to travel to Bellaire to apply for veterans' services, if Brandon Corbin is successful in achieving one of his goals as new Antrim County Veterans Affairs Director.

"For some of our vets, Bellaire is a long way away, particularly for those who don't drive often or don't drive at all and need to either have friends or relatives bring them to the office or make an appointment for a ride with Antrim County Transportation," said Corbin, who started his new position on July 12. "That could be stopping a lot of our veterans from seeking services at all."

Instead, he'd like to set up satellite offices or "pop-ups," similar to the pop-up vaccination clinics seen in the area in recent months. "I'd like to set up once a month sites in Elk Rapids, Alba, Alden, and Central Lake, which will be closer to home for a lot of our vets, which we hope will help get the word out about the VA and what it offers for our veterans," the new VA director said.
