Tammy Boatman, owner of Boatman's Bellaire Market, which opened just before Mother's Day, offers perennial and annual garden flowers, vintage antiques, gift items and home decor.

BELLAIRE - When Tammy Boatman and her husband Troy decided to open a garden and antique gift shop in Bellaire last winter, she also moved many of the items from her shop in Charlotte (near Lansing) which had made that business so popular with so many.

So it is that integral features of Boatman's Bellaire Market, besides the truckloads of beautiful blooms overflowing the greenhouse and grounds, include a rusty old antique truck that was a birthday gift from her husband after she spotted it on a rural country road, an antique piano, and two big Bernese Mountain dogs.

"Say hello to Holly and Harley," Boatman said as she pointed out the profusion of unique vintage and antique gift items inside the shop. "They're our official customer greeters that are really enjoying their move up north.

"My husband and I are avid snowmobilers and have a cottage near Mancelona," she explained. "Not long ago we discovered the village of Bellaire, which I fell in love with, and last winter my husband saw this building was for sale."

That was all that was needed for Boatman to pack up the dogs, the 1950 Ford truck, and her life and make a permanent move north.
