More details on waste transfer station closing
CENTRAL LAKE — Central Lake Township has offered more details on the closing of the township's waste receiving station, which was approved on Wednesday, July 21 during the township board's monthly business meeting.
Since the sale of American Waste, which handled the household garbage and heavier items taken to the transfer station for many years, to the Canadian GFL Environmental, costs have risen substantially, according to the minutes of the July 21 meeting.
The company hiked the cost of waste bin exchanges immediately after the sale and warned the township that because of increased costs to the new owner, the township could expect even more price hikes in the near future.
