Millage rate on upcoming library renewal vote reported incorrectly

KALKASKA – A millage rate for the proposed renewal that will be on the Aug. 6 ballot and would support operations for the Kalkaska County Public Library was incorrectly reported in the July 18 edition of The Kalkaska Review.

It was originally, and incorrectly, reported that voters would be deciding the fate of a five-year, 2.5-mill renewal request in the upcoming election. Instead, the correct millage rate that will be on the ballot will be 0.25 mill.

“We regret any confusion this error may have caused our readers and the voters of Kalkaska County,” stated Review Editor Dave Lein.

According to library officials, the renewal is the same millage voters previously passed in 2008 and 2014. The $195,000 annually generated by the levy currently makes up about two-thirds of the library’s yearly revenues.

The library is providing a postcard to prospective voters prior to the Aug. 6 election that outlines how the millage is used and benefits the community. Programs, many of which are supported financially by the millage, are also listed on the library’s website at

Polls for the Aug. 6 election are slated to be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For more information on the upcoming election, residents may contact the Kalkaska County Clerk’s Office at 231-258-3300 or their respective township offices.

Also, The Review will be publishing reviews of any local funding requests that will be on the Aug. 6 ballot in next week’s newspaper.
