BENZONIA — At a cross country meet that featured dozens of schools and had eight sessions spread across two days, two local runners still managed to stand out at the Pete Moss Invitational hosted by Benzie Central.

Mancelona’s Tyler McClure was the overall boys winner of Saturday’s fourth session, while Forest Area’s Meagan Lange broke the school record she set last week during Saturday’s first session.

The first three sessions took place on Friday, with Saturday following with five more sessions. Mancelona, Forest Area and Central Lake all were part of the festivities to kick off the cross country campaign.

McClure had a phenomenal start to the year, running a time of 17:27 to finish 12 seconds ahead of runner up Xander Civinskas of Roscommon. Earlier in the day, Lange continued her blistering start to the year, shaving 16 seconds off the school record time she set a week ago with a 32nd-place time of 21:47.

Joining McClure with a top-10 finish was Greg Parsons, who took eighth in 18:41. Dan Wildfong turned in a 15th-place time of 20:08 for the Ironmen and was followed by Jaymes Wildfong in 21st (20:40) and James Lakie in 23rd (20:42). The Mancelona boys finished third as a team, while the girls squad was sixth. Pacing the Mancelona girls was Sophie Sy in 13th (23:41), followed by Emily Anger in 19th (24:39), Makayla Orman in 20th (25:05), Kenzy Davis in 35th (28:14) and Kallie Crouch in 37th (29:03).
