Mancelona’s Orman realizes goal, signs with Lakers
MANCELONA — Playing college softball has been a goal for Makayla Orman for as long as she can remember.
That goal was realized last week when she signed to play with Mid-Michigan Community College.
“It was exciting,” said Orman, a senior at Mancelona. “The first time I met a Mid coach was my sophomore year down at a domed tournament, and ever since then I’ve been looking at Mid. I’ve wanted to go there for a long time.”
The school, part of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association, has become a pipeline of sorts for softball players out of northern Michigan. Bellaire’s Mackenzie Hoogerhyde signed with the Lakers on the same day, and the roster features former standouts from the area such as Orman’s former teammate at Mancelona, Summer Robbins.
