Mancelona’s Fredrickson takes first at Northern Michigan Championships

GAYLORD — Mancelona senior Coleton Fredrickson added to a stellar campaign on the wrestling mats when he finished first in the 103-pound division at Saturday’s Gaylord Northern Michigan Championships.

Fredrickson, who improved to 41-1 on the year after claiming the first-place finish, took top honors in the region’s top regular season wrestling tournament when he defeated Gladstone’s Lane Matzke with a  pin in 4:24.

The Ironmen’s Kyle Corcoran-Edwards ended up with a second-place finish at 112 pounds. Corcoran-Edwards advanced to the finals in his division before he fell to Gaylord’s Bennett Sides with a pin in 3:21.

Two more Mancelona wrestlers also earned medals with sixth-place finishes, including Ian Somerville at 130 pounds and Isaiah Groesser at 171 pounds. Of the seven wrestlers the Ironmen sent to the tournament, each one posted at least one victory.
