A love of motorcycles leads to 78-year marriage
BELLAIRE – Ray and Eloise Reim have a lot of things in common.
Among those are their three children, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, their 78 year marriage and love of motorcycles that brought the couple together.
"I was out on my Harley with some friends in Middlebury, Indiana, doing some hill climbing up through the woods and she was standing there, watching, with the most beautiful smile I'd ever seen," Ray said. "She was a pretty girl."
Turning and looking at his wife, he said softly, "She still is."
Luckily, Eloise Burkholder agreed to take a ride with him. But when the event ended and Ray offered to take her home, she turned him down.
"She was there with another guy – she said," he recalled with a laugh.
Today, Eloise Burkholder Reim can't remember that other young man's name.
Three years later, the couple was married in Goshen, Indiana, on July 1, 1939.
