KALKASKA – Not everyone is happy with the new leadership at the Kaliseum Recreation Complex.

Members of a water aerobics classes that reportedly has been held at the Kaliseum for 17 years attended the June 21 meeting of the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners, complaining the class had been unfairly closed down by facility’s recently hired director, Krysztof Oliwa.

“We were told Friday would be our last day after 17 years at the Kaliseum,” said local resident Marsha Peebles, who attends the class along with 20 to 30 other women.

“We’ve been doing this for years,” she said. “It’s a very social thing. Then, in one day, we were told it was our last day.”

Peebles said that Oliwa reportedly told the class’ instructor that she would have to renew her certification, as well as pay a $70 per hour rental fee for the pool, in order for the class to continue.
