A local mom who ‘made every day special’
CENTRAL LAKE – Carolyn Dawson Brown doesn't think she's a hero. But to every one of her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that's exactly what she is.
Born in the Dawson family homestead on what is now M-88, where she was raised with her older brother and younger sister, Carolyn Dawson graduated from Central Lake High School in 1957.
Ten years later, she had eight children, and just a few years after that, eight children to raise alone in a little house at the foot of Bunker Hill, north of Central Lake.
It wasn't easy, especially when her first three kids, including a set of twins, Julie and Jay, were all born in her first three years of marriage, meaning she had three kids in diapers at the same time.
