Local girl makes character wigs for cancer patients

MANCELONA – Miss Michigan Junior Sweetheart 2017 Desiree Herrst, 14, of Central Lake, is preparing to compete in a national pageant in Houston, Texas this November. Scoring for the pageant is based partly on community service and involvement.

“We started researching to see what would be a good program for Desiree to choose for her project,” said Rebecca James, Desiree’s mother. “We found the ‘Magic Yarn Project’ on Facebook and learned that it benefits children fighting cancer. Desiree was inspired to choose this as her platform in memory of Payton Dennis.”
