When a lot of water has gone over your personal dam, it is inevitable that you constantly compare your “Now” to your “Then.” It goes like this …

THEN: It was the early 1950s and my toddler was taking an extra long nap, so I tip-toed to her room, peeked in, and saw her standing in her crib, clutching a pencil stub in her small fist as she drew a long line of little stick figure ballerinas dancing merrily along her bedroom wall. Those tiny dancers were still there when we left that house a couple of years later. I never could bring myself to paint over them.
NOW:  If that happened now, chances are that the mom would capture the moment with a video on her phone, post it on You Tube, have a million views by morning, and perhaps end up on the evening news or a guest shot on the “Ellen” TV show.
