Little Old Woman: Looking back while moving forward

Ahhhhhh … the last scrap of wrapping paper has gone out with the trash; most of the glitter has been vacuumed out of the carpet; the ball has dropped in Times Square, and the house is once again quiet as we settle in for the winter with both resignation and gratitude.
When one has zipped right into the ninth decade there is much to look back on. When I look at pictures takes in 1900: women in long skirts and big hats, men in three-piece suits and derby hats sitting high up in their first automobiles, it seems like a world away, but actually it was only 27 years before I was born. My family didn’t own a phone until I was in eighth grade.
