Lionesses donate special cases for Honduran eye mission
CENTRAL LAKE – In August 2015, the Central Lake Lionesses listened as Traverse City optometrist Dr. Robert Foote told them about the need for soft eyeglass cases to protect the eyeglasses collected from Lions groups throughout the area, which he distributes on regular mission trips to Honduras.
That sparked a fire in the ladies' organization, which has resulted in more than 2,000 eyeglass cases that are now in the hands of disadvantaged residents in Central America.
"Being new to Michigan and the club, I felt the need to work on the soft eyeglass cases which would use my sewing skills and fill a need for Dr Foote," said Lioness DiAnn Roberts. "So, early in 2016 the Lioness Club had a work night and made around 250 soft cases for Dr. Foote to take to Honduras that year."
