ELK RAPIDS — A swing of the bat on a 3-0 count by Alexis Cain sent the ball sailing over the left field fence for a three-run walk off homer and an 8-6 win for Central Lake over the Elks in the championship game of the Elk Rapids Softball Invitational on Saturday.

The game was tied 6-6 after seven innings, triggering international rules for the eighth inning, where the batter that made the last out in the previous inning starts out on second base. The Elks batted in the top of the eighth with speedster Sierra Molby on second. Nevada Molby used her speed to beat out a bobbled infield hit and moved Sierra Molby to third. With two outs, the next batter sent a screaming line drive right back to Cain on the mound for the third out, leaving a pair of Elks stranded on base. The Trojans began with Hope Cassio at second base. Angel Shaw ripped an infield single, then both runners advanced on a passed ball. This brough Cain to the plate, and four pitches later the game was over, with the Trojans earning the invitational trophy.
