KPS board set to interview 6 for superintendent vacancy

KALKASKA — Less than two months after its current superintendent announced his resignation, the Kalkaska Public Schools Board of Education could be well on its way to finding a successor.

Outgoing Supt. Terry Starr, the top administrator at KPS since 2018, announced in mid-April he would not be seeking an extension to his current three-year contract, effectively resigning from the position as of June 30. Starr is set to begin his role as the new superintendent at Shepherd Public Schools on July 1.

The KPS board has moved quickly to find Starr’s replacement, moving to contract with Michigan Association of School Boards consultant Joe Powers, himself a former superintendent at neighboring Crawford-AuSable Schools in Grayling, to lead the search.
