KPS board president announces resignation
KALKASKA – It wasn’t easy and sometimes the emotions started to surface, but Kevin Davis knew it had to be done. Effective Sept. 30, the Rapid City resident will no longer be a member of the Kalkaska Public Schools Board of Education.
Davis, who currently serves as the board’s president, submitted a letter of resignation to his fellow board members Monday, Sept. 10, prior to school board’s regular monthly meeting.
“A new season is upon us, a season of transition,” Davis stated his letter. “In this next season, our move takes us outside the KPS district and requires me to resign my position from the board.
“It has been a distinct honor to work with all of you and see the progressing improvements throughout the district,” he added. “The district is certainly making huge strides with the culture, climate and morale vastly improving. This is a statement I wouldn’t have made nine months ago.”
It’s also been about nine months since Davis admitted that his employer approached him about a possible transfer to the company’s headquarters in Oklahoma City, OK.
“The time has come to pass to make the move a reality,” he added. “Moving from the Kalkaska/Rapid City area is with a certain amount of hesitation, as this has for the most part always been home and the community is magnificent.
“This is reflected in each of you, as it has been my utmost pleasure to serve with all of you on the KPS board.”
