KCRC adds four trucks to fleet, expands number of routes
KALKASKA – The addition of a quartet of new plow trucks to the Kalkaska County Road Commission fleet is proving to have benefits beyond providing drivers with a new ride, including increased efficiency and new routes.
John Rogers, KCRC manager, said the local road commission last fall purchased new trucks to help update what many consider an aging fleet.
“In 2017, the average age of our trucks was 13 years old,” Rogers said. “The two trucks being replaced are currently 20 and 18 years old.
“Because of our financial condition in the years past, most of these trucks were purchased (as) used from surrounding counties,” he added. “Even though we have a great group of mechanics who’ve done an amazing job with what they had to work with, this aging fleet was high maintenance and sometimes unreliable.”
