KALKASKA — During a special meeting held on Wednesday, Sept. 29, the Kalkaska Village Council approved an amendment to the village's personnel handbook, agreed to retain its medical insurance provider, and increased employee wages for the fiscal year ahead.

After trustee Diana Needham noted the village's interest in employee longevity, adding that the village's non-union personnel had not received straight pay increases in two or three years, an across the board pay increase of five percent was unanimously approved. The exception is that of the salary of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent, whose annual pay was increased to the same wage as the Above Ground Utilities Superintendent and Below Ground Utilities Superintendent. The wage increases, effective with the next pay cycle, had been recommended by the Village's Personnel Committee.

Also approved by unanimous vote was an amendment to the village's personnel handbook detailing the number of times during the year that a salaried employee can receive a payout of compensatory time. Salaried employees will now receive a payout of compensatory time four times during the year.  The maximum amount employees may accumulate remained the same.
