KALKASKA - Kalkaska County officials are hoping to show voters why they should support the renewal of an operational millage for the Kaliseum Recreation Complex by hosting an “open house” in October, just prior to voters casting their ballots on the issue for a second time this fall.

District No. 3 Commissioner Kohn Fisher, chairman of the county board, said the millage renewal is needed, as it is a key part of the overall funding for the Kaliseum, a county-owned recreational facility on West Mile Road in Kalkaska.

The ballot proposal will be the same four-year, 0.25-mill millage renewal that would help partially fund operations at the Kaliseum that county voters defeated by a margin of 2,413 “no” votes to 2,237 “yes” votes in the recent Aug. 4 primary election. It’s also the levy that had been approved by voters in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
