Ironmen cruise over Pine River in season opener
MANCELONA — A Mancelona football team that has hopes of doing big things this season didn’t disappoint in its season opener against Leroy-Pine River on Friday.
The Ironmen racked up 300 yards on the ground, using a quick start and a solid finish to earn a 36-8 win.
Adam Ackler rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries, while Justin Ackler had 117 yards on 14 carries and two scores. Mason Crandall chipped in with 41 yards on 11 carries.
The Mancelona defense also stood tough, limiting the Bucks to 50 yards of total offense.
“For the first game I was happy with how we performed,” said Mancelona coach Dan Derrer. “There’s still always fundamental stuff that we have to continue to get better at. We have to get better every week so we can reach our full potential.”
