KALKASKA — With deadlines looming, Kalkaska village officials had hoped to hold a “budget workshop” on Monday, Feb. 1.

Instead, due to an incorrect passcode, the online gathering of members of the Kalkaska Village Council and other officials turned out to be the meeting that wasn’t.

The meeting was scheduled to start at 5 p.m. on Monday night. But, the error was discovered, as council members had trouble logging on to the Zoom application and joining the online meeting.

“It appears Zoom somehow crossed the passcode for (the) meeting with a newly created meeting scheduled for another date,” said Angie Koon, Kalkaska village clerk. “Somehow Zoom generated a different passcode than what was originally assigned and subsequently posted at meeting creation.”

Village President Harley Wales added that all council meetings using the Zoom application should include the same meeting code and password.
