Shown is an architectural rendering of the competed Patriot Plaza on the campus of Kalkaska Public Schools. The first phase will involve the dedication of a new flagpole as part of an inaugural “Military Appreciation Night,” scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, just prior to the Blazers’ home football game against Grayling.

KALKASKA – There’s no doubting that the Oct. 20 varsity football game pitting host Kalkaska and Grayling will be meaningful. It’s a conference clash between two neighbouring rivals, with both battling for berths in the state playoffs.

However, the upcoming gridiron battle will have even greater significance, especially for those who’ve worn a military uniform.

The Oct. 20 contest is providing the setting for the inaugural “Military Appreciation Night” beginning at 6 p.m., an hour prior to the kick-off of the football game. During the festivities, military veterans will be recognized, with a special tribute for those who served in World War II.

All active or retired military personal are invited to join the festivities, with veterans being admitted free of charge.

Also as part of the ceremonies, a new flagpole, the first phase of what will become “Patriot Plaza,” will be dedicated.
