If successful, recall of village president could cost $10,000 or more

KALKASKA – The price of victory in recalling Kalkaska Village President Jeff Sieting, if successful, could cost the Village of Kalkaska $10,000 or more, according to some officials.

The outspoken Sieting, who was first elected village president in 2011 when he beat incumbent Virginia Thomas, has become the political target of Kalkaska For Peace, a nonprofit group that formed late this summer in reaction to racist and anti-Islamic posts on Sifting’s personal Facebook page.

The group recently filed language for a potential recall petition against Sieting with the Kalkaska County Clerk’s office. A “clarity hearing” of the Kalkaska County Election Commission is set for Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Kalkaska Count Governmental Center to determine whether the language is valid and KFP can start collecting signatures.
