Miss Kalkaska Tayla Rucker and members of her court: Shanee Stingley, Allison Luck and Meagan Williams share a laugh as they pet one of the 4-H pigs before helping with a kids’ activity at the fairgrounds.

KALKASKA – The Kalkaska County Fair and 4-H events began on Tuesday, July 25 with animal shows and exhibit displays, and ended on Saturday, July 29 with the Bump n’ Run Demolition Derby.

“We had a fabulous derby with approximately 36 cars on Saturday alone,” said fair board representative Dawn Moses. “We had a lot of new people coming through the derby gates from out of town, and we had new local people who attended.”

The small animal show took place on Tuesday, July 25, followed by the large animal show on Wednesday. A total of 68 4-H pigs were shown, as well as cows, lambs, goats, chickens, rabbits, and more.

Grand champion overall showmanship awards were given to Amy Saxton (rabbit), Hunter Delehanty (poultry), Amy Saxton (lamb), Matt Kniss (beef) and Brylie Greter (swine).

More than 75 different buyers bought livestock during this year’s auction on Thursday, July 27.
