Guest Column - More information makes for better public notices

At a time in our democracy when disinformation, half-truths and intentional misdirection are rampant, it cannot be more critical to find reliable methods of maintaining an informed citizenry.
Public notices have served as one such method since before the country’s founding.
Under the current and outdated Revised Judicature Act, foreclosure notices are required to contain only the names of the parties to the mortgage, a description of the property and the current amount due under the mortgage, but it had been a long-standing practice in the industry to include additional non-statutory language to assist borrowers, lenders and the public.
