Guest Column - The intersection of homelessness and domestic abuse

“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned,” is a quote by author and human rights activist Maya Angelou. This ache for home is felt no more acutely than by the 554,000 people in America who are currently experiencing homelessness.
National Homelessness Awareness Week, recognized earlier this month, focused attention on this ongoing social problem and provides an opportunity to learn more about its causes. Although a variety of contributing factors can lead to homelessness, a major reason is domestic abuse.
