Group re-files recall petition language after misspelling president’s name
KALKASKA – An effort to unseat Kalkaska Village President Jeff Sieting hit a slight bump last week, as those filing proposed language for a recall petition inadvertently misspelled Sieting’s last name.
Kalkaska County Clerk Deborah Hill said a clarity hearing of the Kalkaska County Election Commission on Thursday, Nov. 9, lasted only last a few minutes, after commission members discovered Sieting’s name was incorrectly spelled “Seiting.”
The petition language was rejected without further review by the three-person commission.
“It was not factual for a ballot filing,” Hill said.
“It was an unfortunate error,” said Elizabeth Dunham, chairperson of Kalkaska For Peace, a nonprofit group that has sought to recall Sieting.
