Fundraising effort nets BL church $1,000
BEAR LAKE TWP. - The members of the Bear Lake Christian Church literally give thanks for the roof over their heads.
But, they’re also very mindful that that very same roof has to be paid for over time. And, church members recently celebrated yet another fundraising effort to help cover the cost.
Church members were presented with a $1,000 check by representatives of the Family Fare grocery food store chain on Friday, March 1, as part of an ongoing fundraising effort.
“It’s from the (store’s) ‘Direct Your Dollars’ program,” said Pam Modos, a member and fundraising volunteer at the church. “We saved $150,000 in sales receipts and turned them in for this check.”
According to Modos, the $1,000 will be put toward helping to pay off a loan that funded a new roof installed at the church, located on M-72 between Grayling and Kalkaska, several years ago.
A new roof was needed to help prevent leaks and combat ice problems during the winter.
“We had to take a loan out for it,” Modos said. “So, before, what we were doing was holding fundraisers to get a good down payment for it.
“Since then, we’ve been holding fundraisers to help pay it off.”
