Fourth of July festivities still planned

REGION — The list of fireworks displays and parades around the region is a lot slimmer than usual due to COVID-19, but even the pandemic couldn’t completely erase opportunities for people in the area to celebrate the Fourth of July this year.

In Antrim County, as many as three places will hold public fireworks, including shows at dusk on Friday at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, at in Ellsworth on Lake St. Clair and on Torch River. Fife Lake is putting on its own fireworks show, but it has the only one happening on Saturday.

Central Lake also normally concludes a busy holiday with fireworks but won’t be holding them this year, however. Central Lake will be having a boat parade on Friday, with a 6 p.m. staging and 6:30 p.m. sailing from south of Thurston Park. There will also be a boat parade in Ellsworth, too, which has the most events officially occurring over the weekend, beginning with music and a DJ at 4 p.m. The Freedom Salute, which honors fallen military heroes, runs from 5:15-10:15 p.m.
